Payroll and auto-enrolment put in order within your first ninety days
Payroll and auto-enrolment for limited companies that need each pay run filed on schedule, pension duties handled and director pay checked against the dividend plan.
The risk sits between the pay run and the year end. A salary chosen months ago may no longer fit the dividend plan. The unanswered question is whether anyone checks the whole position before the next run.
Fiscal Umbrella provides payroll and auto-enrolment for growing limited companies in Luton and across the UK. Its fixed fee is agreed in writing, and Fasih Khan ACCA checks payroll alongside director pay, dividends and employment allowance.
I was stuck with my R&D claim, but Fiscal Umbrella helped me navigate it smoothly. They're professional, efficient, and truly know their stuff.…Cartel Media

What changes when payroll follows the plan
Pay runs happen when staff expect
Payroll is prepared and filed to the agreed schedule, with changes raised before pay day.
Pension duties stay on the calendar
Auto-enrolment duties are tracked alongside payroll, so a new hire does not create a hidden deadline.
Director pay still fits the year
Salary is checked with dividends and personal tax before an old setup becomes a costly habit.
Where payroll problems begin before anyone spots them
A routine pay run can repeat a decision that stopped working months ago.
- Dividends
“I kept the same salary from incorporation, but nobody checked whether it still worked with my dividends.”
Each pay run repeated an old decision, leaving the wider tax position unchecked.
- Hire
“We added our first employee and only discussed pension duties after the first payroll was due.”
Late decisions can lead to corrected payroll and urgent pension work.
- Allowance
“I was the only person on payroll, and my accountant never mentioned the employment allowance.”
A routine filing service can miss whether the company could change its payroll setup legitimately.
- Day 90
What changes once payroll advice is in the room
Payroll follows an agreed calendar. Each new hire triggers a check of pay and pension duties. Director salary is reviewed with dividends and employment allowance before the year end.

If your accountant cannot explain your pay, pension duties and employment allowance before the next run, you have the wrong accountant
Answer these questions based on what your current accountant could confirm this week.
Question 1 of 3
Could they tell you this week whether your director’s salary still fits the dividend plan?
Could they confirm your auto-enrolment duties before the next payroll?
Could they tell you whether your company can claim the employment allowance?
The payroll setup has real gaps that affect pay, pensions and tax. The set-up review is the sensible next step.
The basics are partly covered. The employment allowance check below shows why the remaining question deserves a proper answer.
Your current accountant is covering the main payroll decisions. The guides can help you keep asking the right questions as the company grows.
Where filing payroll alone leaves questions unanswered
Regular filing covers the pay run, while growing companies also need decisions reviewed before they become habits.

Pay is calculated and submitted each period.
Changes are made when the director sends them.
Pension work is handled as a separate deadline.
The year-end accountant reviews tax later.
Payroll tied to director decisions
Pay dates and changes sit on one calendar.
Director salary is reviewed with dividend planning.

The payroll questions to settle before you switch
What does the monthly fee for payroll and auto-enrolment include?
The scope is agreed after the set-up review. It can cover regular payroll processing, HMRC submissions, auto-enrolment duties, payroll changes and the director’s salary review. Employment allowance eligibility is checked too. The fee is fixed in writing before work starts, so the included work is set out first.
Can Fiscal Umbrella handle payroll if we already have an accountant?
Yes. Fiscal Umbrella can review the payroll arrangement while your current accountant continues with other work. If a full switch is the better route, the scope and fixed fee are agreed first. No move starts until you have seen what will be handled and how the handover will work.
Do we have to move payroll software?
The set-up review checks your current software, payroll data and pension process. If the setup cannot support the agreed work reliably, Fiscal Umbrella will recommend supported software and explain the change before work starts. The firm supports Xero and QuickBooks, with setup and training included where required.
What happens with our current accountant when we switch payroll?
With your authority, Fiscal Umbrella contacts the current accountant, requests the payroll files and handles professional clearance. Filing dates and payroll information are checked before the move, so the next run has an agreed owner. The fixed scope is confirmed in writing before the handover begins.
Does every limited company need payroll and auto-enrolment?
The answer depends on how the director is paid, whether anyone else works for the company and the pension duties that apply. Fiscal Umbrella checks the company’s position during setup, then places the required payroll and pension actions on an agreed calendar. Technical questions are answered from the company’s actual circumstances.
Can a single-director company claim employment allowance?
If the director is the only person on payroll, the company cannot claim the £10,500 employment allowance. Where a family member genuinely works in the business, adding them to payroll may put the allowance in reach. Fiscal Umbrella checks eligibility alongside salary, dividends and personal tax before recommending a change.
